Trawl control systems

Fishing with minimal risk while maximizing the catch is what drives the MARELEC trawl control systems. Line tension and length measurement is continuously monitored and is used to automatically fish, shoot or haul the gear. The MARELEC trawl control systems are used for beam trawling, bottom trawling, fly-shooting, etc.

MARELEC D-PROTEC

The MARELEC Protec Fishing System is mainly used for beam trawling. Constant tension and wire length measurement is monitored and displayed in the wheelhouse. When the tension builds up at one side, alarms are sounded so the captain can act. Automatic safety measurement can be implemented to protect both crew and vessel. Safety is the number-one priority, just like on land.

Key benefits

  • Protection of gear and people
  • Fewer repair costs
  • Length and tension measurement of port & starboard
  • Special beam trawling software
  • Different length and tension alarms
  • Intelligent control of the winch brakes in case of overload
  • Propeller pitch control
  • Beam trawlers have 2 sets of nets which they shoot from the beams at the side of the vessel. Those beams have quite a bit leverage on the vessel when the tension is not equal. When fishing on a rocky bottom, for instance, there is a higher risk that a net will get stuck behind a rock. The winch brake will automatically release in ABS mode and so reduce the tension.

There is always a risk of getting stuck, even when fishing on clean ground. Small starfish, sand or mud could fill up the nets and cause an overload. This overload is displayed, and alarms are sounded to enable preventive action to be taken.

MARELEC 1

Constant tension and wire length measurement is monitored and displayed in the wheelhouse for a single winch. When the tension builds up, alarms are sounded so the captain can act. Automatic safety measurement can be implemented to protect both crew and vessel.

Key benefits

  • Length and tension measurement of a single winch
  • For electric & hydraulic winches : shoot and haul to a requested length.
  • Wire-release control in case of overload.

Vessels that fish with a single line or at their stern or vessels that want to monitor a single winch can use the MARELEC 1.

MARELEC 2

Trawl control system for 2 winches or split winch blocks from small to large vessels. Constant tension and wire length measurement is monitored and displayed in the wheelhouse. When the tension builds up, alarms are sounded so the captain can act. Automatic safety measurement can be implemented to protect both crew and vessel.

Key benefits

  • Maximum opening of net.
  • Reduces costs of repairing gear.
  • Length and tension measurement of port and starboard
  • Different length and tension alarms
  • For electric & hydraulic winches, including monoblock winches
  • Special short-turn programs
  • Wire-release control in case of overload.
  • Classic cost-effective solution / winch control
  • Optimum fishing is a combination of many things. Once you have chosen the fishing ground and gear, it is all about having the net in the water with a maximum opening and speed.

Pelagic vessels, for instance, use fish finders to locate the fish. A sharp turn might be needed so as not to lose the fish. A sharp turn need to be performed with care in order not to destroy the net and keep the front wide open. The MARELEC 2 has the ability to automatically shoot or haul the lines when the sharp-turn program is enabled.

Fishing vessels that need to pull their gear at a constant speed through the water in extreme conditions can also use the MARELEC 2 trawl control. When the stern of the ship is moving upwards and downwards with the waves, the MARELEC program will shoot and haul for each wave.

MARELEC 3

Trawl control system for 3 fishing lines from small to large vessels. Constant tension and wire length measurement is monitored and displayed in the wheelhouse. When the tension builds up, alarms are sounded so the captain can act. Automatic safety measurement can be implemented to protect both crew and vessel.

Key benefits

  • Maximum opening of both nets.
  • Reduces costs of repairing gear.
  • Length and tension measurement of port middle and starboard wire.
  • Different length and tension alarms
  • For electric & hydraulic winches, including monoblock winches
  • Special short-turn programs
  • Wire-release control in case of overload.
  • Classic cost-effective solution / winch control

Optimum fishing is a combination of many things. Once you have chosen the fishing ground and gear, it is all about having the net in the water with a maximum opening and speed.

Different fishing gear requires both different lengths and tensions, which depend on the type of trawl doors and the type of weight on the central fishing line. The MARELEC 3 will show you exactly what is needed to maintain an optimum catch.

MARELEC D-FLY

Trawl control system for fly-shooting vessels. When you have 6 to 8 km of fish lines in the water with a net that is far from the vessel, hauling is crucial for catching fish. The MARELEC D-FLY will fully automatically perform hauling in a combined hauling mode. A sophisticated program based on the combination of speed, tension and length optimize the catch while continuously monitoring the operation for safety.

Key benefits

  • Maximum fishing surface.
  • Reduces costs of repairing gear.
  • Length, speed, and tension measurement
  • Different length and tension alarms
  • Electrical spooling gear control

The fly-shooting method of fishing has existed for a very long time and it has increased in popularity over the last decade. This fishing method results in lower fuel consumption, while increasing the quality of the fish caught. This method of fishing not only requires skill but also the continuous monitoring of multiple parameters. With the MARELEC D-FLY, the captain can rely on a system that provides signals when something need to be done.

With the MARELEC FLY, the wires are guided on the winch by the electric spooling software. This feature is crucial for optimally loading the winch with the cable while hauling. Shooting the wires usually happens in freewheel at full speed which means the spooling and cable guiding is crucial. Alarms are given at certain lengths, so the captain knows when to make a turn, shoot the gear, etc.

Different programs can be activated and fine-tuned when hauling the fishing gear. Each program contains specific features, depending on the fishing grounds, gear & experience. The traditional method of hauling is to use equal lengths and equal speeds that increase during the process. At certain lengths, the system will automatically change from speed to length, and from tension to pressure.
